Round 1, Pick 5: Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois

John Schneider and Pete Carroll met with the media after selecting Devon Witherspoon with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

"We're thrilled to add Devon to our defense," Schneider said. "He's a playmaker with a lot of potential. We think he can be a difference-maker for us." Carroll agreed, stating that Witherspoon "fits our culture and our scheme perfectly."

Witherspoon expressed his excitement to join the Seahawks. "I'm ready to get to work and contribute to this team," he said. "I'm going to give my all on the field and make the most of this opportunity."

Round 1, Pick 20: Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State

The Seahawks also traded up to select Jaxon Smith-Njigba with the No. 20 overall pick. Schneider explained that the team was impressed by Smith-Njigba's route-running and pass-catching abilities.

"He's a natural playmaker and we think he can be a major weapon in our offense," Schneider said. Smith-Njigba echoed Schneider's sentiments, saying, "I'm looking forward to making an impact on this team and helping us win."
