International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda: A Legacy of Justice

20 Years of Impunity Fight

Established in the aftermath of the Rwandan Genocide, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) played a pivotal role in the global fight against impunity. Since its inception in 1995, the tribunal indicted 93 individuals for grave violations of international law, including genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.

Legacy and Closure

The ICTR closed its doors in 2015, leaving a lasting legacy of justice. Its closure marked a significant milestone in the global effort to end impunity for mass atrocities. The Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals now maintains the ICTR's website, ensuring that its proceedings and judgments remain accessible to the public.
